Electron microscopic GABA evaluation in hippocampal mossy terminals of genetic absence epilepsy rats receiving kindling stimulations

Objective: The hypotheses related to the fact of epileptic mechanisms are mainly based on excitation-inhibition imbalance in central nervous system. GAERS (Genetic Absence Epilepsy Rats from Strasbourg) is a well-known animal model absence epilepsy, and frequently used experimental studies. In present study, we aimed examine possible morphological gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) density changes hippocampus after electrical kindling stimulations.
 Methods: All control test group rats received 6 stimulations. were decapitated 1 h last stimulation. Ultrastructural GABA immunocytochemistry was evaluate quantitatively mossy terminals hippocampal CA3 region.
 Results: levels less groups compared their controls, Wistar groups; mitochondrial dendritic spine area ratios greater groups, although all these evaluations statistically nonsignificant. Depletion synaptic vesicles evident groups.
 Conclusion: reason decreased found study might be that has been released pool rapidly at an early time period stimulation, for compansation mechanisms. observed shows even stimulations have impact changing morphology trisynaptic cycle. increased activity. performance learning GAERS.
